Der Witwer Friedrich Scherzer (HEINZ ERHARDT) lebt mit seinen fünf halbwüchsigen Töchtern in einer idyllischen Kleinstadt. Er verwaltet ein Schloß, das nach Kriegsende in amerikanischen Besitz übergegangen ist. Da er seinen Beruf sehr ernst nimmt, hat er manchmal Probleme seinen Pflichten als Vater nachzukommen. Dazu hat er noch sein liebes Leid mit mißgünstigen Nachbarn und Jugendamt.
