In the summer of 1988, two inseparable teenage twin sisters from East Germany, Doreen and Isabel, embark on a journey to a summer sports camp on the bank of Lake Balaton in Hungary, where they hope to train and be accepted into a prestigious boarding school for athletes. However, their adventure takes an unexpected turn when they meet a group of young men from West Germany, including Arne and Nico, who are holidaying in the area. Despite the strict rules against interacting with Westerners, the girls can't resist the charms of their new friends, and soon, Doreen and Arne find themselves falling deeply in love. As the end of their stay approaches, Arne asks the sisters to flee to the West with him, putting the bond between the twins to the ultimate test. Will they choose love and freedom, or loyalty to their homeland?
