the complexity is all about this film, in a way it can be interpreted in so many philosophical ways.

Scarlett Johansson in a very very different sci fi movie! Glazer creates beautiful foley work a stunning pictures but I don't think I understand much of the narrative.

Under the Skin er en symfoni af minimalistiske indtryk. Lydeffekter, der synes at opstå ud af ingenting, interiør, der bliver til landskaber, billeder, der veksler mellem klinisk opsathed og dokumentarisme.

Frequently asked questions

What is Under the Skin about? Toggle content

"Under the Skin" is a thought-provoking and visually stunning sci-fi thriller that explores the complexities of human empathy and the blurred lines between predator and prey. The film follows an alluring alien (Scarlett Johansson) who roams the streets of Scotland, using her seductive charms to lure unsuspecting men into a dark and dangerous world. As she navigates this tar-black world, she begins to question her mission and the true nature of her existence. Throughout the film, themes of gender politics, immigration, and empathy are woven into every frame, creating a richly layered narrative that challenges viewers to confront their own assumptions about humanity. The film's use of mirrors and reflections serves as a powerful metaphor for self-discovery, while its stark visuals evoke a sense of unease and discomfort that lingers long after the credits roll. Despite being classified as a sci-fi thriller, "Under the Skin" defies easy categorization. It's at once an unflinching examination of human vulnerability and a commentary on society's expectations of women. The film asks difficult questions about what it means to be human - whether it's possible for an alien entity to experience empathy or if humans are doomed to repeat their mistakes forever - but refuses to offer any easy answers. Instead, it leaves viewers with more questions than they started with - questions that will haunt them long after they leave the cinema.'
