The Other Side of the Door

The Other Side of the Door is a 2016 horror thriller film directed by Johannes Roberts and produced by The Orchard. The film takes place in India and follows the story of Maria Harwood (played by Sarah Wayne Callies), a wife and mother who is mourning the drowning death of her son Oliver. In an attempt to cope with her grief, Maria learns of an ancient ritual that can bring her son back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. However, when she disobeys a sacred warning to never open that door, she upsets the balance between life and death, unleashing a world of horror and supernatural entities that threaten to destroy her family. The film also stars Jeremy Sisto as Michael Harwood, Maria's husband, Sofia Rosinsky as Lucy Harwood, Maria and Michael's daughter and Oliver's younger sister, and Logan Creran as Oliver Harwood. Jax Malcolm provides the voice of Oliver, while Suchitra Pillai plays the role of Piki, the Harwoods' live-in housekeeper and nanny. Javier Botet stars as Mrtyu, the gatekeeper of the underworld. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its atmospheric settings and performances. It was released on March 4, 2016, in the United States by The Orchard.
