In a struggling mining town in northeastern England, the last pub standing, The Old Oak, becomes a refuge for locals facing economic despair. When Syrian refugees arrive in the community, tensions run high and division threatens to tear apart both the newcomers and the long-time residents. Against this backdrop of uncertainty and prejudice, an unlikely friendship blossoms between TJ, the pub's owner, and Yara, a young refugee with aspirations of becoming a photographer. Together, they embark on a journey to bridge cultural divides through shared meals and mutual understanding. As they work to unite their communities amidst adversity, hope begins to flicker in their fractured town.
