Frequently asked questions

What is The Mission about? Toggle content

The Mission (1986) In the 18th century, Father Gabriel, a Jesuit priest, ventures into the South American jungle to convert the Guaraní tribe to Christianity. He faces opposition from plantation owners and colonists who seek to enslave the natives. Rodrigo Mendoza, a mercenary and former slave trader, joins Father Gabriel's mission and finds redemption through his work with the Jesuits. When the Portuguese threaten to shut down the mission and enslave the Guaraní, Father Gabriel and Mendoza disagree on how to defend their home. While Father Gabriel believes in non-violent resistance, Mendoza decides to break his vows and militarily protect the mission. Against all odds, they fight for their right to stay in their land and for the freedom of their people.
