In 1870s America, a young Chinese woman named Peony escapes an arranged marriage by fleeing to the United States, where she meets Tom, an American-born Chinese cook. Despite their cultural differences, they fall in love and start a new life together. However, their happiness is threatened by Yu Hing, a ruthless Hong Kong Triad boss who seeks to extend his power into America and has his sights set on Peony. As tensions rise and violence erupts in the form of a mass lynching of Chinese immigrants, Peony and Tom must fight for their love and survival in a hostile new world.
