The House at the End of Time

The House at the End of Time is a Venezuelan thriller/horror film that tells the story of Dulce, a mother who experiences paranormal occurrences within her old house that leads her to uncover a dark mystery involving her family's tragic fate. The film takes place in two different time periods: 1981 and 2011. In 1981, Dulce lives in the old house with her husband Juan José and her two sons, Leopoldo and Rodrigo; amidst strange supernatural events, her family gets attacked, and Dulce gets arrested and imprisoned for 30 years. In 2011, an elderly Dulce is released from jail to serve her sentence under house arrest in the same house, leading her to investigate the truth behind all the supernatural occurrences she has been experiencing with her family members. Alongside a local priest who helps her uncover her innocence and the truth behind those tragic events, she discovers an English Freemason built the house a hundred years earlier, but disappeared mysteriously; subsequent news reports indicate frequent disappearances. She also learns that her family's death was part of an ongoing tradition of tragedy within the household. The film explores themes such as grief-induced madness due to loss, trauma caused by being haunted by ghosts from the past, time loops, and regrets not being able to change the past, even with the chance to do so Dulce must confront internal demons and face the darkness lurking within the house as she tries to rescue her lost son and unlock its secrets.
