The High Note

The High Note is a drama-comedy-romance movie that revolves around the lives of two women, Grace Davis ( Tracee Ellis Ross) and her personal assistant Maggie (Dakota Johnson). Grace is a famous R&B singer who has not released new music in a decade, and Maggie is an aspiring music producer who remixes Grace's songs in her free time. Despite their close relationship, they have different views on their careers and futures. The movie begins with Maggie meeting David Cliff (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), a young musician who she discovers has wealth despite his struggles as a musician. Maggie lies about being a professional producer and offers to work with David on an album. Meanwhile, Grace's manager Jack Robertson (Ice Cube) pushes her towards a Las Vegas residency instead of recording new material. When Grace learns that her record label discourages her from creating new music due to her age and race, she becomes conflicted about her future in the industry. Inspired by David's talent and determination, Maggie encourages Grace to pursue new material despite the risks involved. However, their relationship becomes strained when Grace learns that Maggie has been working secretly with David on his album without credit or payment for herself The plot takes several turns as both characters face challenges in their careers and personal lives . Ultimately , they come up with a plan that could forever change their destinies . The High Note explores themes such as ambition , creativity , ageism , racism and feminine power within the music industry .
