In the midst of World War II, Denmark is occupied by Nazi Germany and its king and government surrender with little resistance. But one man stands up against the invaders: Henrik Kauffmann, the Danish ambassador to the United States. Declaring himself the sole representative of a free Denmark, he recruits other foreign diplomats to join him in his fight against the Nazis. With the help of his American wife Charlotte, he convinces President Roosevelt to support their cause and develops a daring plan to liberate Greenland from German control.
