The Cuckoo is a Finnish-Russian drama film set during the final days of World War II. The movie follows the story of Veikko, a Finnish sniper who is turned in by his German companions and left to fend for himself in a remote Lapland forest. After freeing himself from his shackles, Veikko seeks refuge in Anni's farm, where he meets Anni - a Sami woman who has lost her husband to the war - and Ivan, a Soviet captain who has been arrested by the NKVD. Despite their language barrier and mutual distrust, the three form an unlikely bond as they work together to survive the harsh winter. As they struggle to communicate and come to terms with their shared fate, they develop a deep and complex relationship that transcends nationality and language.
