In the sleepy town of Holstenwall, a mysterious doctor named Caligari has come to town with his somnambulist, Cesare, to perform a show at the local fair. When a town clerk is found murdered, suspicion falls on Cesare, but Francis, a young man who is visiting the town with his friend Alan, becomes convinced that Caligari is the true culprit. As Francis delves deeper into the mystery, he discovers that Caligari is not just a sinister hypnotist, but also the director of an insane asylum. With the help of the asylum staff and his friend Dr. Olsen, Francis uncovers Caligari's dark secret: he has been using Cesare to commit murder and further his own twisted agenda. But as the truth begins to come to light, Francis realizes that he and his loved ones are in grave danger from the mad doctor and his accomplices.
