The Body

Inspector Jaime Peña investigates the mysterious disappearance of a woman's body from a morgue in Barcelona. The body was discovered missing after a night watchman was found unconscious, having been hit by a car while fleeing from the morgue. The body was identified as that of Mayka Villaverde, a wealthy businesswoman who had died of a heart attack following a business trip. Her widower, Álex Ulloa, is initially cooperative with the investigation but becomes increasingly suspicious as events at the morgue seem to be taunting him and his mistress, Carla Miller. As Peña delves deeper into the case, he discovers that Mayka had hired a private investigator to investigate Álex's infidelity and had also heard him plotting to kill her. Álex eventually confesses to Peña that he had indeed planned to murder Mayka with the help of Carla, who he claimed was his alibi. However, Ángel Torres, the night watchman who had been hit by a car, reveals that he saw Mayka's body in the elevator before a figure in a balaclava fired a gun at him. The police discover incriminating evidence at Álex and Mayka's house, including a map of the morgue. While transporting Álex, they discover a body in the woods, which turns out to be Mayka's. Álex attempts to escape but is caught by Peña and eventually confesses that he and Mayka had fled the scene of a car accident ten years ago, leaving Peña's wife Ruth to die. The logo on a keychain hanging from their car's rearview mirror was the same as one Peña's daughter Eva had recently remembered: Avalon California. It was revealed that Carla Miller was actually Eva, Peña's daughter, who had been pretending to be Álex mistress all along..
