In the shadow of politically conservative China, a young woman named Qian Yiehong navigates a tumultuous journey of self-discovery and love. After rejecting a boy due to their political differences, she endures physical and emotional pain that follows her throughout her life. She later falls in love with a married man, but their relationship ends in heartbreak and betrayal. Qian ultimately marries a man she doesn't love, but he too betrays her in a brutal act of violence. Through it all, Qian grapples with the weight of her past and the societal expectations placed upon her. Will she find the strength to break free and forge her own path?
