Sunset Song tells the story of Chris Guthrie, a young woman living on a farm in rural Scotland during the early 1900s. After her mother's suicide and her father's stroke, Chris is left to manage the farm and care for her family. She finds love and marries Ewan Tavendale just as World War I breaks out. Ewan goes off to fight, but returns a changed man who ultimately rapes Chris and leaves her devastated. Despite the hardships she faces, Chris finds strength and determination to keep her family's farm running, even in the face of tragedy.
