Stick It

Stick It is a coming-of-age movie that revolves around Haley Graham, a rebellious 17-year-old who is forced to return to the competitive world of gymnastics after a run-in with the law. Haley was once considered one of the most talented gymnasts in America, but she walked out of competition during the World Championships, costing her team the gold medal and earning herself a reputation as one of gymnastics' most hated people. Haley is sent to the elite Vickerman Gymnastics Academy (VGA) run by legendary coach Burt Vickerman (Jeff Bridges), where she must confront her past and learn to work with her teammates towards a common goal - winning. Despite her initial reluctance, Haley's talent shines, and her return from retirement seems for her and her team. However, she discovers that the judges are biased and have not changed their ways from when she left. In the end Haley breaks down under the pressure and reveals that she walked out of Worlds because she discovered her mother was having an affair with Coach Marty (John Kapelos) causing her parents to divorce; she then decides to leave the sport for good. The film features an ensemble cast including Missy Peregrym as Haley Graham, Jeff Bridges as Coach Vickerman, Vanessa Lengies as Joanne Charis amongst others. It was released in 2006 and includes cameos from professional gymnasts like Nastia Liukin and Valeri Liukin.
