What is Splendor in the Grass about? Toggle content

In 1928 Kansas, two teenagers from different social classes, Bud and Deanie, are deeply in love and dream of a future together. However, their families' disapproval and their own desires for a more intimate relationship drive them apart. Bud succumbs to pressure from his parents and society, breaking up with Deanie. She descends into madness and suicidal thoughts, while Bud is sent away to college and marries another woman. Years later, Deanie returns home, institutionalized and scarred, while Bud is now a rancher, married with children. They briefly reunite but accept that their lives have taken different paths. The film poignantly portrays the fragility of young love and the societal pressures that can tear it apart.
