Spies Like Us: Two Bumbling Government Employees, One Mission to Save the World In the midst of a nuclear arms race between the US and the Soviet Union, two unlikely government employees, Emmet Fitz-Hume (Dan Aykroyd) and Austin Millbarge (Chevy Chase), find themselves recruited as decoy spies to distract enemy agents while a more capable team carries out a top-secret mission. After a hasty training session, they're sent on their mission, unknowingly used as bait to draw away attention from the real operation. As they journey through Pakistan and Soviet Central Asia, they encounter countless obstacles and enemies but manage to escape unscathed. They soon team up with Karen Boyer (Donna Dixon), the only survivor from the main operative team. Together, they overpower a mobile missile guard unit using tranquilizer guns and extraterrestrial outfits. Following real-time instructions from their intelligence agency, they launch an ICBM into space, targeting an unknown area in the Continental US. Believing they've started a nuclear war, they pair up with their Soviet counterparts for one final moment of intimacy before the impending doom. Meanwhile, Generals Sline and Miegs reveal a twisted contingency plan to Ruby and Keyes - allowing thermonuclear war to commence in order to preserve American ideals - unaware that Millbarge has diverted the missile into space using his knowledge of guidance systems. The W.A.M.P bunker is stormed by Army Rangers; rogue military officials involved in this unauthorized covert op are arrested; Millbarge Fitz-Hume Boyer save humanity! With tensions still high between superpowers at film's end ,our three heroes fly off into sunset together aboard tanker aircraft headed west across Afghanistan frontier maybe toward another adventure? ... or romantic tryst?
