In 1943, Sophie Scholl, a young university student, and her brother Hans join the White Rose student organization to resist the Nazi regime. They distribute anti-Nazi leaflets at the university, but are caught by the Gestapo and interrogated. Sophie maintains her innocence, but when her brother is caught, she takes full responsibility to protect him and their fellow activists. She undergoes a series of intense interrogations by Gestapo investigator Robert Mohr, who tries to break her spirit and extract names of fellow resistors.
