In a small town on the Kāpiti Coast of New Zealand in 1981, a mixed-race teenager named Willie struggles to find his place in a world filled with racial tension and family turmoil. While working at a department store, Willie meets Bennie, a charismatic and unpredictable criminal who introduces him to a life of lawlessness and adventure. As Willie becomes more deeply involved with Bennie's gang, he must choose between his loyalty to his younger brother Solomon and his desire for a sense of belonging and freedom.
