In der schottischen Einöde fernab nennenswerter menschlicher Siedlungen lebt das Mädchen Shell mit ihrem Vater an einer Tankstelle, die ein bescheidenes Auskommen sichert. Vor dem Hintergrund der Isolation entwickeln die beiden ein spannungsreiches Verhältnis, das sich ohne gesellschaftliche Vorbilder vollkommen eigenständig formieren muss.
