In the sweltering summer of 1979, two young women from different backgrounds find themselves brought together by a shared desire for freedom and love. Bing-Kuan, a college student, and Shu-Lan, a factory worker, form a secret romantic bond as they work together on a banana plantation in Taiwan. As they begin to volunteer at a local magazine, they become embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the authoritarian government, risking everything for the sake of their love and their beliefs.
