What is Defiance about?
Defiance is a historical drama film based on the true story of the Bielski brothers, who fought against the Nazi regime during World War II. The film takes place in Eastern Europe in 1941, where the Bielski brothers, Tuvia, Zus, and Asael, escape into the Naliboki forest after their parents are killed by local Schutzmannschaft under German orders. The brothers vow to avenge their parents' deaths and take under their protection other Jewish escapees hiding in the forest. They stage raids on the Germans and their collaborators, but Tuvia reconsiders this approach when casualties occur. Zus decides to leave the camp and join a local company of Soviet partisans while Tuvia remains with the camp as its leader. The Soviet partisans agree to protect the Jewish camp in exchange for supplies. During a winter of hardship and constant hiding, they learn that the Germans are about to attack them in force. A delaying force led by Asael tries to slow down German infantry but ultimately fails. Despite this setback, they continue fighting against overwhelming odds until eventually managing anNe rescue hundreds of Jews still trapped inside Poland's ghettos..
