Frequently asked questions

What is Pumzi about? Toggle content

In a dystopian future Africa, 35 years after World War III, the remaining cities are under strict control, and resources are scarce. The film follows Asha, a curator of a virtual natural history museum, who receives a mysterious soil sample that hints at the possibility of life existing outside the city walls. Despite the council's denial, Asha's visions and tests convince her that life may have returned, and she breaks out of the compound to search for it. Through her journey, the film explores themes of Africanfuturism, ecocriticism, scarcity and reclamation, and communication, questioning the impact of technology on human relationships and highlighting the importance of nurturing and protecting life in a harsh environment.
