Patch Adams

Patch Adams is a movie based on the true story of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams, who revolutionized the medical community in the 1970s by using humor and compassion to treat his patients. After spending time in a mental institution, Patch decides to become a doctor and enrolls at the Medical College of Virginia. He questions the school's approach to medical care and encourages his fellow students to work closely with nurses and learn interviewing skills early. Patch develops his idea for a medical clinic built around his philosophy of treating patients using humor and compassion. With the help of his friends, he purchases land in West Virginia and renovates an old cottage into a clinic. They treat patients without medical insurance and perform comedy sketches for them. Tragedy strikes when Patch's close friend and fellow student Carin Fisher is murdered by a disturbed patient. Patch is devastated and questions the goodness in humanity. He contemplates suicide but is inspired by a butterfly that reminds him of Carin's wish to fly away. Patch decides to dedicate his work to her memory and continues to run the clinic. The movie follows Patch's journey as he faces opposition from the medical community, including Dean Walcott, who attempts to expel him again for practicing medicine without a license. Desperate to prove Walcott wrong, Patch files a grievance with the state medical board with the help of his former roommate Mitch Roman. The movie ends with Ppatch finally achieving his dream of opening a free hospital that provides care for those who cannot afford it, while also spreading joy through laughter therapy., changing lives one patient at time.. The film stars Robin Williams as patch Adams ,and features an all-star cast including Robert Harper ,Daniels Von Bargen ,and Ann', Margret Eigstið .
