What is Out of the Furnace about? 
Russell Baze (Christian Bale) is a steel mill worker who sees his brother, Rodney (Casey Affleck), at a horse racing simulcast. Rodney reveals that he owes money to John Petty, who runs illegal games. Russell visits Petty and promises to pay off Rodney's debt but ends up in prison for vehicular manslaughter. While in prison, Russell's father dies and his girlfriend Lena leaves him for the police chief Wesley Barnes. After serving his sentence, Russell returns home and resumes his job but finds that Rodney has gotten involved with dangerous individuals to pay off debts. Tired of small money fights, Rodney convinces Petty to organize a more lucrative fight with Harlan DeGroat, a sociopathic drug dealer from rural New Jersey who kills Petty and Rodney during the fight. Determined to seek justice for his brother's death, Russell embarks on a dangerous journey that leads him down an illegal path when he discovers evidence implicating DeGroat in murdering both Petty and his brother after listening to recordings from the cellphone of one of DeGroat's victims..
