Olympic Pride, American Prejudice

In 1936, 18 African American athletes defied Nazi Aryan Supremacy and Jim Crow Racism to win hearts and medals at the Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. This documentary reveals how all 18, including Jesse Owens, are seminal precursors to the modern Civil Rights Movement, despite facing racism and inequality in their own country. Through interviews with families, historical audio footage, and newsreels, the film exposes the struggles and achievements of the Black athletes, including two women who overcame hazing and injuries. The movie also highlights the contrast between the rise of White Nationalism in Germany and the lack of job opportunities and recognition for the Black athletes in the US.
