In 1927 Indonesia, a young woman is trapped in a loveless marriage to a Dutch colonizer. She's known only as "Nyai," a term for a foreigner's concubine, and lives in a luxurious yet isolating residence. Despite the constraints of her situation, she fights to maintain her dignity and sense of self amidst the oppressive colonial society. Through the lens of director Garin Nugroho, this drama sheds light on the struggles of women caught between two cultures and the strength they must find within themselves to survive.
