In 18th-century France, a seductive game of love and deception unfolds when a scheming noblewoman (Marquise de Merteuil) challenges her former lover (Vicomte de Valmont) to corrupt a naive young woman (Cécile de Volanges) before her wedding night. But Valmont has his own plans, setting his sights on the virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel, who is not easily swayed by his charms.
