Nacho Libre is a comedy-drama film about a monastery cook named Ignacio who dreams of becoming a luchador (Mexican wrestler) to raise money for the orphanage where he works. Despite the monastery's ban on wrestling, Ignacio secretly trains with his tag partner Steven and gains popularity in the wrestling circuit. However, their partnership ends when Steven reveals he hates orphans while Ignacio's secret is exposed during a mass. Ignacio decides to fight in a battle royale for the right to take on champion wrestler Ramses and use the prize money to buy a bus for the orphanage but ultimately comes in second place and is banished from the monastery. Nevertheless, he gets a chance to fight Ramses after Silencio, the first-place finisher, is injured. Ultimately, Ignacio's passion and determination lead to unexpected success in both wrestling and romance with Sister Encarnación.
