In the midst of the Russian Revolution, a young doctor named Mikhail Polyakov arrives at a remote village hospital. Struggling to cope with the demanding workload and the harsh realities of rural medicine, he turns to morphine to alleviate his stress. As his addiction grows, he begins to perform increasingly risky surgeries under the influence, putting his patients' lives in danger.
