Hugh Grant and James Wilby give fine and intelligent performances as Clive Durham and Maurice Hall, two exquisitely beautiful young men up at Cambridge in the years before the first world war.

En av James Ivorys många kostymdramer som alla är välspelade men det finns ett stråk av underliggande tråkighet och känslorna och passionen får inte blomma ut under frasiga och välpressade klänningar och kostymer!

What is Maurice about? Toggle content

In early 20th century England, Maurice Hall (Hugh Grant), a young man from a middle-class family, embarks on a journey of self-discovery and love amidst the oppressive societal norms of the time. After his lover, Clive (James Wilby), rejects him due to fear of being exposed as homosexual, Maurice struggles to come to terms with his sexuality and finds solace in his friendship with gamekeeper Alec Scudder (Rupert Graves). As they navigate their taboo relationship and confront the prejudices of their era, Maurice and Alec ultimately find love and acceptance in each other's arms. Based on E.M. Forster's novel of the same name, James Ivory's "Maurice" is a poignant and thought-provoking film that explores themes of sexuality, identity, class, and social convention.
