Masaan

Along the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi, India, four lives intersect in a web of love, loss, and longing. Devi, a young woman from a lower caste, is torn between her desire for independence and the societal pressures that threaten to consume her. Deepak, a civil engineering student from a Dom family, dreams of escaping the confines of his hereditary job. Shaalu, a high caste Hindu girl, yearns for a chance to run away with the one she loves. And Vidyadhar, Devi's father, is trapped in a cycle of corruption and betting, desperate to protect his family's future. As their paths cross and their stories intertwine, they must confront the harsh realities of their lives and the rigid moral codes that govern their society. Will they find a way to escape the shackles of tradition and follow their hearts, or will they be consumed by the very system that has held them back for so long?
