Sammy es una niña de 13 años que lucha para superar la muerte de su madre. Tras ser pillada destrozando uno de los lavabos de su colegio, su padre, cansado de su comportamiento, decide inscribirla en un campamento de verano. Si vuelve a tener problemas, le asegura, será enviada a un correccional de jóvenes delincuentes. Tras saltarse su primera clase, Sammy conoce a Margot, una maga un tanto arisca que la obliga a convertirse en su asistente para un espectáculo. A partir de este momento, surge una amistad que cambiará para siempre la vida de ambas.
