Meet Anne and Bob, a wealthy American couple who have just moved to Paris. They're eager to impress their sophisticated friends by hosting a lavish dinner party. But when Anne's superstition gets the better of her and she discovers that they'll have 13 guests at the table, she panics. To avoid the supposed bad luck, she asks their maid, Maria, to pretend to be a rich Spanish friend and join the party. Little does Anne know, Maria has her own secrets and a budding romance with a charming Irish art scholar named David. As the night progresses, Anne's jealousy and classism are put to the test, leading to unexpected consequences.
