In the heart of a war-torn country, a young orphan named Azarias tends to a herd of oxen, including the majestic Mabata Bata. But when the ox steps on a mine and explodes, Azarias fears his uncle's wrath and flees into the forest with the remaining animals. His grandmother and uncle embark on a dangerous journey to find him and bring him home, while Azarias must confront the harsh realities of his life and the devastating consequences of war.
