Love, Lies

In 1940s Korea, two young gisaeng-in-training, So-yul and Yeon-hee, dream of becoming the country's top singers. They share a deep bond and promise to never compete with each other. However, their friendship is put to the test when they both fall for the same man, a famous songwriter named Yoon-woo. As their feelings for him grow stronger, their friendship begins to deteriorate, and So-yul becomes consumed by jealousy. She makes a drastic decision that ultimately leads to tragic consequences, destroying the lives of those around her and ultimately, herself. Set against the backdrop of Japan's colonial occupation of Korea, this film explores the themes of tradition vs. modernity, jealousy, and the duality of gisaeng, who were both admired and oppressed.
