Liberation

In 1949, China is in the midst of a brutal civil war. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is determined to take back the northern region from the Nationalist Government, who will stop at nothing to prevent it. Amidst the chaos, a high-ranking Nationalist officer named Yao Zhe (Wallace Chung) is tasked with ensuring the safety of soldiers' families. However, when a calculating officer puts his daughter's life in danger with a sinister plan, Yao Zhe must choose between his duty and his family. He stumbles upon an audacious mission led by Cai Xing Fu (Zhou Yi Wei), a commander of the PLA, who has infiltrated the city to gather intel before the final assault on the Nationalist stronghold. Cai Xing Fu offers an unlikely alliance with Yao Zhe. As the battle rages on, Mei Yan (Zhong Chu Xi), a young woman on a secret mission to avenge her parents' death, adds to the complexity of loyalties and motivations. Will this diverse group help minimize casualties, or will their true allegiances be revealed in the heat of the battle? "Liberation" is a Chinese film directed by Li Shao Hong, released in 2019.
