Frequently asked questions

What is Lady Jane about? Toggle content

In 1553, England was thrown into chaos following the death of King Henry VIII. His successor, Edward VI, was only a child and in poor health. John Dudley, the Lord President of the Council, sought to keep England true to the Protestant Reformation by marrying his son, Lord Guildford, to Lady Jane Grey, and naming her as the young king's heir. Despite her initial reluctance, Jane and Guildford eventually fell deeply in love. After King Edward VI's death, Jane was crowned queen, but her reign was short-lived. Her council abandoned her, and she was imprisoned by Queen Mary I, who offered to spare her life if she renounced her Protestant faith. Refusing, Jane, her father, and Guildford were executed, their tragic story a testament to the brutal politics of 16th-century England.
