An interesting concept movie but the characters are too flat and cartoonish. Nice nostalgia movie though.

Truly enchanting film. Charming on so many levels. Daniel Auteuil is brilliant as ever; in my opinion, one of his best performances. The premise is cute and a bit gimmicky, but creates a good plot. The supporting characters are a bit flat, but hon...

Trots sin ständigt prasslande romkomförpackning försöker La Belle Époque ändå någonstans ta itu med stora frågor om tidens förgänglighet, rädslan för åldrande och alla dessa prislappar som alltför lätt sätts på ovärderliga känslor.

Frequently asked questions

What is La Belle Époque about? Toggle content

La Belle Époque is a romantic comedy-drama film that tells the story of Victor, a disillusioned sexagenarian who is feeling disconnected from his wife Marianne and the modern world. His son Maxime, in an effort to lift his father's spirits, pays for an evening organized by his friend Antoine's company, Les Voyageurs du temps. The company offers its clients the opportunity to relive the era of their choice by combining theatrical artifices and historical reconstruction. Victor is initially hesitant but ultimately decides to take a chance and revisit the most memorable week of his life - the week he met his great love 40 years ago. The film takes place in two different time periods: the present day and 1974, when Victor was still young and carefree. Throughout the film, we see how Victor's experiences in both time periods intersect and how he finds himself getting lost in memories of a past long gone. The film features a talented ensemble cast including Daniel Auteuil as Victor Drumond, Guillaume Canet as Antoine, Doria Tillier as Margot, Fanny Ardant as Marianne Drumond, Pierre Arditi as Pierre , Denis Podalydès as François , Michaël Cohen as Maxime Drumond , Jeanne Arènes as Amélie , Bertrand Poncet as Adrien , Bruno Raffaelli as Maurice/Yvon/Hemingway Lizzie Brocheré as Gisèle / Margot’s friend , Thomas Scimeca Freddy/Hans Axel von Fersen Urbain Cancelier Villemain . La Belle Époque explores themes of nostalgia love regret technology vs humanity marriage etc., all while maintaining its light-hearted comedic tone throughout!
