Gary Starke (Andy Garcia) es un tipo muy peculiar: no tiene residencia fija, ni cuentas bancarias, ni carnet de identidad; en su profesion, la reventa de entradas, todo eso es innecesario. Linda (Andie McDowell) es, por el contrario, una mujer muy convencional: es ordenada, lo planifica todo y aspira a ser la gran cocinera de su propio restaurante.
