It is a very good film. It has moments evoking great emotion, as when the black and white members of the presidential security detail (hard-line ANC activists and Afrikaner cops) agree with excruciating difficulty to serve together.

Frequently asked questions

What is Invictus about? Toggle content

Invictus tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela, South Africa's newly elected president, united his divided nation by backing the underdog Springbok rugby team's historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship match. Despite being an outsider, Mandela believed that sport could transcend racial and economic barriers and bring his people together. With the support of Francois Pienaar, the team's captain, and his unity-inspired leadership, Mandela and the Springboks overcome impossible odds to win the championship and bring their nation together in a spirit of hope and reconciliation. Clint Eastwood directs this powerful film with a star-studded cast including Morgan Freeman as Mandela and Matt Damon as Pienaar. Based on John Carlin's book "Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed the World."
