Indignation

Based on Philip Roth's acclaimed novel, Indignation follows Marcus Messner, a working-class Jewish student from New Jersey, as he begins his college career at a conservative university in Ohio in 1951. Marcus struggles with anti-Semitism, sexual repression, and the ongoing Korean War, all while trying to stay focused on his studies. He falls for the beautiful but troubled Olivia Hutton (Sarah Gadon), which sets him on a path of self-discovery and reckoning with society's conventions through his relationships, personal beliefs, and life-altering experiences. From the acclaimed producer of Brokeback Mountain comes a coming-of-age tale about our best intentions and their lifelong consequences. In the film, Logan Lerman plays Marcus Messner, a scholarship winner and straight-A student who begins his college career on the conservative Ohio campus of Winesburg University. Sarah Gadon plays Olivia Hutton, a college student from a wealthy family who is struggling with her own demons. The film also features Pico Alexander as Sonny Cottler, Danny Burstein as Max Messner, Linda Emond as Esther Messner, and Tracy Letts as Hawes D. Caudwell. The plot follows Marcus's journey as he navigates college life, grappling with issues of identity, religion, and sexuality. He falls for Olivia but struggles with her troubled past and the societal norms that surround them. The film takes place in the 1950s during the Korean War era, adding an extra layer of complexity to the story as young men like Marcus face the draft and the fear of combat. Through it all , Marcus must confront his own beliefs , the expectations placed on him by his family and society,and the person he wants to become.
