In Her Shoes

In Her Shoes is a heartwarming and humorous movie about two sisters, Maggie and Rose Feller, who are complete opposites but are forced to come together after a series of unexpected events. Maggie is a free-spirited party girl who can't hold a steady job due to her dyslexia, while Rose is a successful lawyer who is protective of her sister despite her flaws. After their stepmother throws Maggie out, Rose reluctantly allows her to move in with her in Philadelphia. However, their already difficult relationship worsens when Rose catches Maggie in bed with Jim, a man she's been dating. A heartbroken and furious Rose throws her out, leading Maggie to discover a bundle of old greeting cards from their estranged grandmother Ella. Homeless and without job prospects, Maggie travels to Deerfield Beach, Florida, to find Ella and convinces her to let her stay with her. Meanwhile, Rose quits her job and becomes a dog-walker before falling in love with Simon Stein, a colleague from the law firm. However, their relationship is strained by Rose's reluctance to talk about Maggie. When Ella contacts Rose and sends her a plane ticket to visit, she confronts her father about hiding their grandmother from them and learns the truth about their family's complicated history. As time passes, Maggie discovers she has a knack for helping the residents of the retirement community where Ella lives pick out clothes that make them feel good about themselves again—something that also helps the lonely academics find each other again too (one even starts teaching at local community college). With help from an assisted living employee named Ethel (Cameron Diaz), they start an exclusive shopping service catering onlywioth elderly customers called “In Her Shoes.” Meanwhile back home during one exhilarating night on duty at Bar Mitzvah festivities being mistaken as identical twins by truly oblivious great uncle Jack (Dennis Farina), they finally reveal secrets they never knew existed—including one family member not yet introduced into this plot summary!
