Highlander II: The Quickening In the year 2024, the ozone layer is believed to have been destroyed, and it's up to MacLeod and Ramirez to set things right. Opposition comes from both the planet Ziest (MacLeod and Ramirez's homeworld) and a corporation profiting from the supposed lack of ozone. Also, flashbacks show the story behind MacLeod and Ramirez's exile from Ziest. Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior, and his mentor Ramirez, are sent to Earth to protect the planet from the harmful effects of the sun's radiation, which have caused widespread death and destruction. However, they soon discover that the ozone layer has actually repaired itself, and that a powerful corporation has been exploiting the situation to gain control over the planet. With the help of an environmental activist and a mysterious woman from their past, MacLeod and Ramirez must fight against the corporation and its leader, General Katana, who seeks to eliminate them and maintain his grip on the planet. Along the way, they uncover secrets about their past and the true nature of their immortality. The film takes place in a dystopian future where the sun's radiation has caused a catastrophic impact on Earth, and the survivors live in a world of darkness and fear. MacLeod and Ramirez must confront their enemies and restore the planet to its former glory, while also coming to terms with their own immortal existence.
