What is Heartbreakers about?
Heartbreakers is a comedy-crime-romance movie released in 2001, directed by David Mirkin and starring Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ray Liotta, and Gene Hackman. The movie follows the story of Max Conners (Weaver) and her daughter Page (Hewitt), a mother-daughter con artist team who specialize in seducing wealthy men, marrying them, and then divorcing them for their money. The movie opens with Max and Page finishing a con on Dean Cumanno (Liotta), an auto-body shop owner who falls victim to their schemes. However, things take a turn when Page announces that she wants to go solo, leaving Max no choice but to agree to work one last con together in Palm Beach. Their target is William B. Tensy (Hackman), a wealthy tobacco tycoon with a weakness for his own product. While working the main con with Tensy, Page starts a side con by targeting beachfront bartender Jack (Jason Lee) without her mother's knowledge. Despite developing genuine feelings for him, Max tells Page to break off the relationship, which she reluctantly does. However, things get complicated when Tensy proposes to Max ahead of schedule and accidentally chokes and dies while trying to initiate sex with her. With Dean threatening to call the authorities after figuring out that he was conned by Max and Page before they can make Tensy's death look like an accident; they offer him his divorce settlement money back if he helps them out of this mess they are in
