Happy as Lazzaro

In the isolated countryside of Italy, a kind-hearted young man named Lazzaro lives a simple life as a sharecropper. However, his world is turned upside down when he befriends the son of the wealthy and powerful Marchioness Alfonsina De Luna. Tancredi, who is equally kind and mischievous, convinces Lazzaro to help him fake his own kidnapping in order to aggravate his mother and get some of her money. As they spend more time together, they bond over their love of nature and music, and Lazzaro takes Tancredi's idea of them being half-brothers seriously. However, their idyllic life is disrupted when the police arrive at the estate and expose the truth behind Tancredi's fake kidnapping. The Marchioness is arrested for her involvement in the "Great Swindle," a scandal involving sharecropping that had been illegal for years. In all the chaos, Lazzaro falls off a cliff and disappears without a trace. Many years later, Lazzaro wakes up to find that he has not aged while everything around him has changed drastically. He embarks on an unbelievable journey to find his dear friend Tancredi in modern society with little knowledge about how things function nowadays but with an open heart nonetheless!
