In the quaint town of Bergen, a grand folk festival is held every seven years to celebrate the "border crossing." As tradition dictates, the townspeople revel in the upside-down world, where the usual rules don't apply. Amidst the chaos, Thomas Weidmann returns to his hometown, fleeing his failed university career and leaving his girlfriend behind. He crosses paths with Kerstin Werner, whose life has been turned upside down by a crumbling marriage and her husband's infidelity. As the festival reaches its climax, Thomas and Kerstin find themselves drawn to each other, navigating their own personal border crossings.
