Ugly, Dirty and Bad

Ugly, Dirty, and Bad is a Drama/Comedy movie released in 1976, directed by Ettore Scola. The film tells the story of a dysfunctional family living in a shantytown in Rome, where four generations share a cramped home. The patriarch Giacinto, played by Nino Manfredi), recently lost an eye and received a large sum of money from the insurance company, which he refuses to share with his family. The family members, hungry for the money, unsuccessfully try to steal it and even attempt to poison Giacinto when he brings home a prostitute as his mistress. However, Giacinto survives the poisoning and sets fire to their home. To his disappointment, his family survives. Eventually selling the house to Neapolitan immigrants, they all end up living in crowded new shantytown shacks together. This film is a satirical comedy with raw and tragicomic moments, showing the harsh reality of life in the shantytowns of Rome.
