Elephant follows the lives of several high school students as they go about their daily routines, unaware of the impending doom that is about to strike. Two students, Alex and Eric, are planning to carry out a mass shooting at their school, motivated by unclear reasons, ranging from bullying and neglect to violent video games and Nazism.
